Mies van der Rohe (German-American architect)

Ludwig Mies van der Rohe (1886–1969) was a German-American architect and a key figure in modern architecture. Known for the aphorisms "less is more" and "God is in the details," Mies embraced minimalist design, using industrial materials like steel and glass. His career began in Germany, where he was involved with the Bauhaus school and developed a modernist style.

After fleeing Nazi Germany, he moved to the U.S., where he led the architecture department at the Illinois Institute of Technology and designed iconic buildings like the Seagram Building in New York and the Farnsworth House in Illinois. Mies also designed influential furniture pieces such as the Barcelona Chair. His work and teaching left a lasting impact on architecture, focusing on functional design, simplicity, and structural clarity.
