  • Artist Bio

TH Robsjohn Gibbings (British designer and architect)

Harry T. H. Robsjohn-Gibbings (1903–1976) was a British-born American designer known for blending classical and modern elements in his interior design and furniture. After moving to the U.S. in 1929, he transitioned from naval architecture to interior decoration, gaining prominence in the 1930s and 1940s.

His designs combined Greco-Roman motifs with Art Deco, notably in his work for Casa Encantada. He rejected contemporary modernist trends and created pieces for high-profile clients, including Doris Duke and Alfred A. Knopf. Robsjohn-Gibbings also collaborated with Greek cabinetmakers on the Klismos furniture line. He continued designing until his death in 1976, with his work still highly collectible and influential in modern American design.
