Angelo Mangiarotti (Italian designer and architect)
Angelo Mangiarotti (1921–2012) was an influential Italian architect and designer known for his minimalist and sculptural approach. He studied architecture at Politecnico di Milano and taught at institutions such as the Illinois Institute of Technology and University of Hawaii.
Mangiarotti initially worked with Bruno Morassutti on large architectural projects like the Via Cantore Skyscraper and Mater Misericordiae Church. After their partnership ended in 1960, he focused on furniture design, collaborating with companies like Skipper, Cassina, Artemide, and Vistosi. Notable designs include the Incas console table (1978), Secticon table clocks (1960), and the Giogali lighting system (1967).
A respected academic, Mangiarotti received numerous awards, including the Domus Formica award (1956) and a gold medal in architecture (1998). His legacy was highlighted by a solo exhibition in 2010 at the Design Museum of Calenzano.
