Madsen & Schubell (Danish designers)
Ib Madsen and Acton Schubell were key figures in mid-20th-century Danish furniture design. Their collaboration began in 1944 when Madsen, an upholsterer, teamed up with cabinetmaker Schubell to create the iconic Clam chair. They worked with Dutch company Bovenkamp and other manufacturers, producing high-quality, sought-after furniture.
In 1963, they parted ways, with Madsen forming Madsen og Schubell and Schubell continuing as Schubell & Son. Their pieces, known for their craftsmanship and use of fine woods and materials like lambswool, remain highly regarded today.
